The purpose of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of CSO officials in programme financial management in order to ensure that CSOs meet the requirements of donor agencies in their financial management. The workshop was designed to, among others, improve the ability and capacity of participants to develop their skills in accounting concepts, practices and procedures for programmes to enable them to effectively handle and manage day to day transactions in their organisations. The training covered, among other aspects, examination and preparation of journals, posting to ledger accounts, preparation of simple statements of account and balance sheets, preparation of periodic reports(i.e. monthly, quarterly, annually), planning and budgeting, procurement, basic audit principles and practices, etc. At the end of the workshop, a communique was issued by the partcicipants. Key issues in the communique included the: need to sensitize CSOs and other stakeholders on the importance of proper accounting and auditing; and the need to have a uniform accounting manual for CSOs in Kano state.
